This video story dives into the ways that social media affects Black women, especially when it comes to beauty standards and athletic goals. It looks at how platforms like Instagram and TikTok often push certain beauty ideals, pressuring Black women to look a certain way to fit in. Personal stories from Black women are shared, revealing the struggles and triumphs of navigating beauty standards that are often defined by social media and the impact that these standards have on their self-image.
On the flip side, the video also shows how social media has become a powerful tool for Black women to redefine fitness and athleticism on their own terms. Platforms have given them a space to share their journeys, celebrate different body types and inspire others to pursue their athletic goals.
While this shift has created more representation and empowerment, the pressure to maintain a certain “perfect” image online is still real. This video explores the balance between staying true to oneself while also dealing with the constant push of fitting into beauty and fitness ideals influenced by social media.
