In 2020, New York had the second highest homelessness population in the country. In a city of more than 8.3 million people, about one out of one hundred people are homeless.
This points to an lack of affordable housing in the state — including on Long Island — that is both accessible and safe. The Island’s Becca Williams reports that deeply rooted segregation restrains progress from being made in this Long Island Advocate podcast.
