As more people turn off their cable boxes and switch to their phones as their primary news outlet, a new kind of journalist has also emerged. These journalists are referred to as “news influencers.”

These social media creators and online journalists serve as key sources of information for their respective audiences. As their platforms grow, so does their significance in certain mediums, like politics.

WRHU’s Gabrielle Yanovitz had the pleasure of sitting down with Mark Lukasiewicz, Dean of the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University, to discuss this growing phenomenon.

Dean Lukasiewicz recently brought his expertise to a wider audience, serving as the moderator for a panel at the prestigious Paley Center for Media that discussed the impact of these news influencers.

In this interview, Yanovitz and Dean Lukasiewicz discuss the perspectives of these new media figures as well as their growing impact within the political media spectrum.
