Earlier this month a record number of young voters hit the polls, both in early voting and on Election Day. Across the nation, the city’s mayoral race became a flashpoint for conversations over religion, ideology and online disinformation.

At times, those conversations became violent.

Frontrunner Zohran Mamdani, a social democrat, faced a barrage of attacks from high-profile figures, including President Donald Trump and supporters of former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Some even labeling him a “communist.”

WRHU’s Jonathan Padilla took a deep dive into this topic, speaking with various people who explained their thoughts ahead of the election.
