Schools and families confront the social media challenge

A number of recent studies are drawing concern to how the ubiquitous nature of technology and social media are detrimentally impacting today’s youth. This has led to various responses, including bell-to-bell cell-phone bans being implemented in schools across the country. These measures are an attempt to re-engage young people with face-to-face interactions and real-life connections. The Long Island Advocate’s Lindsey Lolkema recently sat down with parents, teachers, students, mental health professionals and guidance counselors to dig deeper into the effects of social media and technology on today’s younger generation … or in reality … the effect on all of us.
